Representative of the coaching staff of the Vietnam National Gymnastics Team, coach Truong Minh Sang once expressed: "Currently, the ASIAD 20 players of the team are training urgently.

Basically, everyone achieved the most difficult techniques in their performance and maintained the spirit of being ready to compete.

At the end of the 2026 Asian Gymnastics Championships, the Vietnamese Gymnastics Team was officially awarded 8 slots to participate in ASIAD 20.

Among them, 5 male athletes will participate in ASIAD 20: Nguyen Van Khanh Phong, Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, Trinh Hai Khang, Tran Dinh Vuong, Do Nam Anh.

3 female slots to Japan include Nguyen Thi Quynh Nhu, Tran Doan Quynh Nam and Huynh Thien Ly.

Among the 8 athletes mentioned above, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong is the one with the best results at the ASIAD arena.

In his participation in ASIAD 19 held in 2023 in Hangzhou (China), Khanh Phong excellently won a silver medal in the men's singles rings event.

At that time, Khanh Phong shared that: "The silver medal is a surprising result for me. However, I have focused very carefully on the techniques, so I performed well when competing.

Towards ASIAD 20, Khanh Phong is being professionally prepared quite carefully by the coaching staff of the Gymnastics Team at this time.

The goal for the athlete is to strive to defend the silver medal in their individual medley event.

The 2026 Asian Gymnastics Championship competing in June 2026 in China has been an opportunity for Khanh Phong and many Vietnamese players to assess their level.

Also here, we grasped more players who may meet again at ASIAD 20.

In China at that time, Khanh Phong did not win a medal in the men's singles rings event.

The coaching staff analyzed: "The 2026 Asian Championship is the time for athletes to focus on competing to achieve team results in order to compete for 5 men's slots to ASIAD 20.

Therefore, in each singles event, we do not have a medal. However, the performances of Vietnamese athletes maintain good technique to be able to compete in Japan in September.

Since ASIAD 19, Khanh Phong has accumulated experience through many important tournaments.

This player from Ho Chi Minh City will successively compete at the 2024, 2025, 2026 Asian Gymnastics Championships, SEA Games 33, and the 2025 World Championships.

This year, Khanh Phong won a silver medal in the rings event at the 2026 World Challenge Cup held in Uzbekistan.

The player once humbly shared: "For me, the focus is still on ASIAD 20. I will try to compete with the highest effort.

The Vietnamese Gymnastics Team did not train abroad during the ASIAD 20 preparation period. Nguyen Van Khanh Phong and his teammates were trained full-time domestically to maintain the most stable spirit.

In the 2026 Asian Championships, the top 3 positions in the men's singles rings event respectively belonged to athletes Yang Haonan (China), Zhang Boheng (China) and Mehdi Ahmad Kohani (Iran).

These will be the people who are predicted to have the ability to win medals in men's singles wrestling at the upcoming ASIAD 20.
