Expected changes of the 2025 National Volleyball Championship

The 2025 National Volleyball Championship is expected to have many changes to improve the quality of matches, while ensuring the tasks of the two national teams.

Can increase the number of foreign soldiers

The 2024 National Volleyball Championship for women just ended on November 17 in Lao Cai. The men's event will start from November 21 to December 1 in Ba Ria - Vung Tau.

The recent matches in Lao Cai of the women's category were highly appreciated for their professional quality. Many surprises occurred when some teams showed performance beyond expectations, typically Long Son Thanh Hoa Cement. Foreign players such as Chepchumba (Duc Giang Chemicals), Warisara (LPB Ninh Binh), Joyce Agbolossou (VTV Binh Dien Long An) or Liu Yanhan (Thanh Hoa) also left their mark, contributing to improving the quality of the tournament.

In addition, the presence of a large number of fans at the stadium has proven the attraction of the national championship. This brings many expectations for the quality of the 2025 season.

Some information suggests that from 2025, it is likely that 2 foreign players will be allowed to play on the field to improve the professional quality of the tournament.

Sharing about this, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet (Vietinbank women's team) said: "Having 1 foreign player competing has caused domestic athletes to play less. If there are 2 foreign players, the chance for domestic players to play is even less. But this is a game, so if the regulations allow, everyone wants to increase their human resources.

Hiring foreign players will cost a lot. This has been carefully studied by the VFV's professional board and will take many years to learn from. In fact, having many foreign players does not affect the quality of domestic players too much because in the past 10 years, even without the presence of foreign players, our youth training work has not had many outstanding faces."

Match schedule suitable for SEA Games 33

The National Volleyball Championship will still be played in the old format, consisting of two phases taking place at the beginning of the year (phase 1) and at the end of the year (phase 2). The break of the tournament is the time for the national volleyball teams. 2024 is the last year of this format.

According to the representative of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), the plan for 2025 may continue to compete in a round-robin format in the group stage but with only 8 men's teams and 8 women's teams. This means that each team will have 7 qualifying matches to decide its ranking, thereby determining the possibility of relegation or advancing to the semi-finals.

With this format, the competition between teams will become more fierce. From here, teams need to prepare carefully and invest in human resources if they do not want to become a name that has to compete for relegation.

At the same time, in 2025, both the Vietnamese men's and women's volleyball teams will participate in the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year. This means that the plan to organize the 2025 National Volleyball Championship will be carefully calculated by VFV and the Department of Physical Education and Sports to have a suitable schedule.

The organization of the national volleyball championship in a seasonal format with the time starting from the end of the previous year and continuing to the following year to finish, eliminating the time gap between the two stages has been calculated.

Mr. Le Tri Truong once stated that the organization of the national volleyball championship aims to be the highest professional playground for teams to compete, but the schedule will also be suitable for the Vietnamese men's and women's volleyball teams.

In 2025, SEA Games 33 is considered one of the important tasks of the two national volleyball teams. Therefore, experts need to have careful calculations to ensure the achievements of the two teams, while improving the quality of the national championship.
