The famous Vietnamese athlete successfully defended her gold medal in the women's 400m hurdles event despite fierce competition from young athletes.

On the morning of August 11, Quach Thi Lan won a gold medal in the women's 400m hurdles at the 2025 National Athletics Championship held in Da Nang.

Quach Thi Lan achieved her best result of 56 seconds 98 to defend the gold medal she won a year ago.

She shared: "I successfully defended the number one position, so I am very happy. Currently, the 400m hurdles event has many young athletes with good expertise, so this victory is meaningful to me. I will prepare best to aim for the 33rd SEA Games.

Second in the event was athlete Le Thi Tuyet Mai thanks to a result of 58 seconds 79. Currently, Tuyet Mai is the best young professional athlete in the women's 400m hurdles event invested by Vietnam Athletics in recent times. This year, this player is 19 years old.

The competition day also saw Nguyen Thi Oanh win her third gold medal at the tournament. She finished first in the women's 10,000m event with a time of 33 minutes 56 seconds 11.

At the tournament, Nguyen Thi Oanh registered to compete in four events including 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m and 3,000m hurdles. She will participate in the 3,000m hurdles event on the final day of the tournament.

At present, the 2025 National Athletics Championship has broken two national records. Last year, six records were set at the 2024 National Athletics Championship. The tournament will continue until August 13.
