On the afternoon of October 18, former player Le Cong Vinh appeared in the Vinh Stadium stands to watch the match between Song Lam Nghe An and Hanoi Police in round 7 of V.League 2025-2026.
After the match ended, the striker, a symbol of Vietnamese football, went down to the field to greet and encourage his former teammates at Song Lam Nghe An, including coach Van Sy Son, assistant Pham Van Quyen and Nguyen Huy Hoang. At the same time, Cong Vinh also had an intimate exchange with assistant Pham Thanh Luong of the Hanoi Police team - who was his teammate in the national team.
Many sources say that Le Cong Vinh has accepted to participate in a training session at the U19 Song Lam Nghe An team for a short time. This is an opportunity for him to accumulate practical experience after completing the first course of the AFC/VFF Coach B program held in September. This practice process is also a requirement to report to lecturers before entering the next stage of the course.
However, Song Lam Nghe An club has not officially confirmed this information.
Compared to his peers, Le Cong Vinh started his coaching career relatively late. While former midfielder Nguyen Minh Phuong has led many V.League and First Division teams, Pham Thanh Luong is studying for a Pro degree and working as an assistant at Hanoi Police, Duong Hong Son used to be a coach in Phu Tho, Cong Vinh only has a C certificate - the beginning of his coaching career since 2024.
After retiring in 2016, Cong Vinh once affirmed that he was not a coach, but unexpectedly took on the position of Acting President of Ho Chi Minh City Club when this team had just been promoted to V.League. In the 2024-2025 season, he almost returned to Song Lam Nghe An as a professional player, but the deal was unsuccessful because the two sides had not found a common voice.
Le Cong Vinh is considered the number 1 striker in the history of Vietnamese football, holding two records: the player who scored the most goals and had the most appearances for the national team.
