The National Middle-Elderly Badminton Tournament is held annually to create a playground, encourage the exercise movement, and improve the health of middle-aged and elderly people nationwide. This is also one of the activities to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons on October 1 and implement the Action Month for the Elderly in Vietnam.
This year's tournament was organized by the Department of Physical Training and Sports in coordination with the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen from October 30 to November 3 in Thai Nguyen province, bringing together 22 provincial and municipal units nationwide with 316 athletes participating in the competition.
Athletes are divided into 9 age groups, including: 36-40 years old, 41-45 years old, 46-50 years old, 51-55 years old, 56-60 years old, 61-65 years old, 66 years old and above; 51-60 years old group, 61-70 years old group.
After 5 days of exciting competition, the overall first prize went to the Thai Binh middle and senior badminton team. The Thai Binh athlete team participated in the tournament with 14 athletes competing in 7/12 events and excellently won 5 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 1 bronze medal, ranking first overall.
The 5 gold medals won by the Thai Binh delegation were in the men's doubles 51-55, 61-65; women's doubles 36-40, 51-55 and mixed doubles 46-50.
