When opponents are weaker than us
The Vietnam women's volleyball team won all 6 matches played at the AVC Nations Cup 2025 (closing in Dong Anh district, Hanoi on June 14). The opponents lost to the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team including Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China), Australia, India, Kazakhstan and the Philippines.
In 6 matches, we have only lost 1 game (Vietnam won 3-1 against Kazakhstan in the semi-finals), while coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team easily defeated their opponents 3-0.
Statistics show that the quality of the AVC Nations Cup (formerly AVC Challenge Cup) is changing every year. There, not every team sends its strongest squad to participate. In 2023, for the first time, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team participated in the AVC Challenge Cup and won a thrilling 3-2 victory over Indonesia in the final to win the championship.
In 2024, we played our last match against Kazakhstan and won 3-0. However, the score of the games in this match was very tight. This year in the final, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team easily defeated the Philippines 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-14) to win the championship.
Before the AVC Nations Cup 2025 in Dong Anh (Hanoi), many predict that the matches will be exciting. But in reality, many matches take place in a one-sided game. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team overwhelmingly defeated all opponents.
Some volleyball experts analyzed that the squad of many teams in the AVC Nations Cup 2025 does not have the best players and uses young faces, so Vietnamese players play smoothly. On the contrary, there are also opinions that the requirement of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team is to compete with opponents worthy of ensuring accumulation of more expertise while opponents below the level have not learned much. The tournament has 35 matches but only recorded 8 matches with a score of 3-2. The remaining matches ended early with a result of 3-0 or 3-1.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet said, after the final match: The Vietnamese women's volleyball team is preparing professionally for the most important task, the 33rd SEA Games. The team is still adjusting. The team's strategy is that players must have smooth coordination and gain more confidence through each tournament".
Continue to need adjustments
14 players have been brought on by coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet in a row in some matches at the AVC Nations Cup 2025. However, Mr. Kiet must ensure the overall results so he does not take the risk of rotating the force.
Throughout 6 matches, against weaker opponents, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team still focused on using the familiar squad including: Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Nguyen Khanh Dang, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Nguyen Thi Uyen, Tran Thi Bich Thuy.
Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet affirmed that each player has the opportunity to compete and the coaching staff will use each person in each tournament to find the right person. Mr. Kiet also confirmed that although the first defense of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team has improved, we continue to perfect this technique.
