Right on the first day of the tournament, experts witnessed Vietnamese athletics team player Le Thi Tuyet winning the 5,000m event.
Le Thi Tuyet participated in the U23 championship age group. The final 5,000m women's U23 race has 5 athletes registered to compete.
After starting, Le Thi Tuyet maintained her best speed to take the lead and complete the competition with a time of 16 minutes 22 seconds 86.
This is Le Thi Tuyet's first gold medal at the tournament.
Finishing second in the event was athlete Le Thi Lam (Ha Tinh) with a time of 17 minutes 23 seconds 05.
Last July, Le Thi Tuyet competed in the 2026 AFC U23 Championships in China. She won 2 bronze medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
This year, the Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports and the Vietnam Athletics Federation organized a competition program for the U20 and U23 championships.
Notably, for the first time, Vietnamese athletics organized the U23 championship and complied with the standards and regulations of the Asian Athletics Federation.
Also in the competition program, some championship results were noticed by experts such as the gold medal of 5,000m U20 women's by Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen (Lam Dong, 18 minutes 16 seconds 33); gold medal of men's U20 weightlifting by Nguyen Van Bao Huong (Army, 14m99, breaking the youth record); gold medal of women's U20 high jump by Mai Ngoc Anh (People's Police, 1m70); gold medal of 4x400m men's and women's mixed relay U20 by Thanh Hoa team (3 minutes 33 seconds 92).
The tournament attracted 477 athletes from 35 units to participate. The competition program lasts until August 15.
