Shooter Trinh Thu Vinh had an excellent competition day, becoming a major highlight of Vietnamese shooting when winning 2 gold medals and breaking 2 SEA Games records, thereby making an important contribution to the overall achievements of the Vietnam Sports Delegation.
In the women's 10m air pistol event, Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang and Trieu Thi Hoa Hong brought home the 31st gold medal for Vietnamese sports. The 3 shooters competed stably, maintaining their concentration throughout the qualifying round to overcome direct competitors in the region.
Meanwhile, in the final of the 10m individual female air gun, Trinh Thu Vinh continued to show the courage of a top shooter. She maintained stability through each shot, especially in the decisions. At the end of the competition, Thu Vinh achieved a total score of 242.7, won a gold medal and once again broke the SEA Games record.
Notably, Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang also played well to win the silver medal with 241.7 points, only 1 point behind her teammates.
Sharing after her impressive achievements, Thu Vinh said: "Actually, today's performance was not bad, but it was not too good. Compared to the world, this result has not yet reached the threshold of winning a medal. But through the tournament, there are also lessons and experiences that I can learn so that I can try harder in the future".
Talking about breaking the SEA Games record, the female shooter modestly said: "I think the record is just luck. While competing, I didn't think I could break the record. Today I just try to stick to the methods set by the coaching staff as well as myself.
When I fell down, I often breathed evenly to calm my psychology and breathing. In competition, it is impossible to always ask for 10. I allow myself to shoot 9 but within control, which is 9 or 10, but if 9.0 or 9.1, I will lose too many points. However, after that, I was able to calm down and get 10 back".
Finally, talking about the gun in hand, Thu Vinh said: "This gun has been with me for quite a long time, almost since I first started practicing until now, that is more than 7 years. Maybe people have exchanged many guns but I still keep them. I often joked that 'I have been with you for quite a while, so you are the best, so listen to me for a moment'.
With two gold medals on the same day and 2 times breaking the SEA Games record, Trinh Thu Vinh not only affirmed her individual class but also showed the careful preparation of Vietnamese shooting.
This achievement continues to strengthen the team's position in the regional arena, while opening up many expectations for the next important events at the SEA Games.
