The customs clearance of the first shipment is not only of commercial significance but also affirms the effective coordination between businesses, state management agencies, scientific organizations and international organizations in bringing Vietnamese agricultural products to access high-end markets.
The first batch of grapefruit exported to the Australian market is being implemented with the participation of businesses and related units in the production, processing and logistics chain. The implementation process has coordination between production, packaging, post-harvest processing facilities, irradiation facilities and logistics service units to ensure full compliance with the technical requirements of the importing country, to synchronously complete the operating chain from goods preparation, post-harvest processing, irradiation processing, logistics organization to import and distribution connection in the Australian market.
The first shipment of 940.5 kg of fresh grapefruit transported by air has completed relevant procedures and was cleared on April 22, 2026. In addition, the next commercial shipment with a volume of 5 tons, using raw materials from Dong Thap province, is being implemented according to the export plan in the near future. After import, the first shipment will be introduced and advertised at Sydney Market (Australia), to promote products and directly reach distribution partners and consumers in this market.
According to Australian regulations, imported grapefruit shipments must undergo strict plant quarantine and biosafety inspection procedures at entry ports carried out by competent Australian authorities.
This agency conducts dossier inspection, including the Plant Quarantine Certificate and related documents, and also conducts actual inspection of packaging, labeling and storage conditions of the shipment. In addition, the shipment is randomly sampled for plant quarantine inspection, with sample taking scale depending on the size of the shipment, which can be up to 600 fruits for large shipments, to ensure reliability in detecting biosafety risks.
In case of detecting violations of quarantine or biosafety, the shipment may be subject to handling, re-export or destruction measures according to the regulations of the Australian side; at the same time, the competent authority of Australia and the plant quarantine agency of Vietnam will coordinate to handle to ensure full compliance with import requirements.
