Assessment and forecast
According to information from the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in the first 18 days of February 2025, Vietnam successfully exported 7,535 tons of pepper, with a total turnover of 51.5 million USD.
In the first month of this year, the US and Germany held the leading position in Vietnamese pepper consumption, with imported pepper reaching 2,829 tons and 1,326 tons respectively. However, the Chinese market has not shown signs of a strong recovery, causing exports here to not improve significantly.
However, VPSA also believes that the outlook for the global pepper market in 2025 will continue to be positive. Pepper output is forecast to decrease in the context of extreme weather affecting productivity in many countries. This creates opportunities for the pepper export industry, especially in the Chinese market, although the pepper import from Vietnam is low in 2024, it is expected to increase demand as soon as Vietnam enters the main harvest season.
