Domestic pepper prices: 5th consecutive day standing still
As of 11:30 am today (May 7), domestic pepper prices are quiet, averaging 142,500 VND/kg. Currently, key areas are trading in the range of 140,000 - 14,000 VND/kg.
Domestic pepper prices have maintained the price range from the first trading session of the week, currently the listed price levels are as follows:
Gia Lai province trades at the 140,000 VND/kg mark.
Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City respectively anchored at the thresholds of 142,500 VND/kg and 142,000 VND/kg.
Dak Lak and Lam Dong offer for sale at a purchase price of 14,000 VND/kg. This is also the highest price in the entire region.
Compared to the beginning of January 2026, the current price is 9,000 VND/kg lower when domestic pepper prices continuously exceeded the threshold of 150,000 VND/kg. However, at the same time 2 months ago, pepper prices had narrowed the gap to 2,900 VND/kg, showing positive recovery signals.
World pepper prices: Rotation
In the world market, pepper prices are mostly stable in countries. The two items of black and white pepper in Indonesia reversed to increase slightly, trading in the range of 6,955 - 9,164 USD/ton (equivalent to 183,390 VND/kg - 241,637 VND/kg), increasing by 8 USD/ton and 11 USD/ton respectively.
The Brazilian market maintained an increase of 100 USD/ton, listed at 6,100 USD/ton (about 16,845 VND/kg). In the same direction, black and white peppers remained unchanged, trading at 12,200 USD/ton and 9,300 USD/ton.
In Vietnam's pepper export market, the price of black pepper of 500 g/l and 550 g/l remains at 6,100 - 6,200 USD/ton. In the same direction, ASTA white pepper is offered for sale at 9,000 USD/ton (equivalent to 237,312 VND/kg).
Assessments and forecasts
The pepper industry is entering a period of stronger price competition. In the context that supply from major producing countries such as Brazil and Indonesia is starting to improve seasonally.
Regarding the market, the US continues to maintain its position as the largest customer of Vietnamese pepper with a volume of 7,272 tons, accounting for 23.4% of total exports in the month. However, exports to the US decreased by 9.8% compared to March 2026. This may be a signal that US importers are temporarily delaying the purchase progress after a period of actively collecting goods before.
Conversely, exports to some European markets decreased, such as the Netherlands down 14.7% and Germany down 18.7%. This reflects that purchasing power in the EU is still quite cautious in the context of slow economic growth and increasingly tightened technical requirements and residue standards.
This poses a greater requirement for businesses in diversifying markets, improving product quality and promoting deep processing to increase export value.
