Domestic pepper prices: Reversal to decrease prices
As of 11:30 today (November 9), domestic pepper prices are trading in the range of 145,000 - 147,000 VND/kg, an average decrease of 500 - 1,000 VND/kg compared to last week depending on the region.
At the end of last week, Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai recorded a slight decrease of VND 500/kg, down to VND 145,000/kg. owners of growing areas in Gia Lai also sell at the lowest level of 145,000 VND/kg.
Although it decreased by VND 1,000/kg, the highest price was still in Dak Lak and Lam Dong, commonly at VND 147,000/kg.
World pepper prices: Indonesia drops sharply
According to the International Pepper Company (IPC), world pepper prices are mostly stable. However, the Indonesian exchange recorded a deep price drop compared to the previous week.
Of which, Indonesia's black pepper prices decreased by 102 USD/ton compared to last week and are currently trading at 7,111 USD/ton. In the same direction, the price of Indonesian white pepper decreased sharply by 315 USD/ton, reaching 9,749 USD/ton.
Brazil's ASTA black quota remained unchanged, trading last week at 6,100 USD/ton. In the same direction, ASTA Malaysia black and white pepper prices remained unchanged for the whole week, selling at 9,200 USD/ton and 12,300 USD/ton, respectively.
Notably, the export price of black pepper in Vietnam has not fluctuated much, currently fluctuating between 6,400 - 6,600 USD/ton for the 500 g/l and 550 g/l type.
Assessment and forecast
The stable performance in many days reflects the cautious trading strategy when exporting enterprises maintain the collection of goods according to the signed orders for the end of the year. However, not pushing up the purchase price to wait for more signals from the exchange rate and train rental; farmers continue to choose to sell with control, prioritizing dried and moisture-prone batches to get a price increase.
This status helps the market maintain a high price base compared to the same period last year, while limiting major adjustments during the day.
