After 2 consecutive storms, green vegetables increase in price

Ngân hà |

After storms and flooding, the price of green vegetables at traditional markets in Hanoi increased by 5,000-10,000 VND (depending on the type of vegetables) compared to normal days.

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper at the traditional market in Dich Vong Hau (Cau Giay), many types of vegetables have increased in price significantly. Green vegetables are sold at prices 5,000 - 10,000 VND higher than normal.

Ms. Ngo Thi Hue - a trader at Dich Vong Hau market - said: "Sweet cabbage is usually 25,000 VND/kg per day, today it increased to 30,000 VND/kg, like the same with bok choy. Water spinach from 25,000-30,000 VND/bunch is now up to 35,000 VND/bunch, while some other vegetables are still priced as good."

Explaining the reason for the increase in the price of green vegetables, Ms. Ngo Thi Hue said that the main reason is the impact of flooding and storms, so the price of imported vegetables is somewhat more expensive.

"Yesterday, in the storm, I still brought goods to sell but consumed very little. The floodwaters reached my back, so I had to get down and push my motorbike to get there. Once I have transported my goods out, I have to try to sell them whether it is raining or flooding" - Ms. Hue said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan - a trader at Nghia Tan market - also said: "Crop prices have increased due to the impact of storms and floods. Many types of vegetables are broken and crushed, and supply is limited, so the selling price is higher than usual. This is a common situation, not due to sellers arbitrarily raising prices".

Ms. Keing Vongdachan (31 years old, Giay Bridge) went to buy food for dinner and said that the food prices today did not fluctuate much.

"The price of bamboo shoots is 20,000 VND/bunch while I buy about 15,000 VND/bunch every day. This price is acceptable because due to the impact of the storm, the market price will also change somewhat. Other foods such as meat and eggs still have the same price" - Ms. Keing Vongdachan assessed.

According to Ms. Le Thi Vui (Cau Giay, Hanoi), some vegetables have increased in price significantly. Regular daily mustard greens are about 20,000 VND/kg, the highest is 24,000 VND/kg, now up to 30,000 VND/kg. Potatoes increased from 12,000 VND/kg to 20,000 VND/kg, while amaranth from 7,000 VND/bunch now to 12,000 VND/bunch".

"According to my experience in going to the market, the current price of vegetables is not the highest. In the next 2-3 days, when the weather is hot again, and the vegetables rot and die due to the large amount of water absorbed by the roots, and the supply decreases sharply, the price will increase" - Ms. Vui shared.

According to records at the booths, meat products still keep prices stable. Ms. Tran Thi Thuy - a trader at a pork stall - said: "I still sell at the same price as usual. Pork prices are stable, shoulder meat is 100,000 VND/kg, ribs are 150,000 VND/kg".

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - Director of the Statistics Office (Ministry of Finance), inflation is under control. However, in October, the CPI of food groups, eating out... is likely to increase due to the impact of recent storms. Especially green vegetables, seafood and processed foods can increase significantly compared to September 2025.
