Emergency services said at least two people were killed in the attack on an apartment building in Kiev.
AP reported that Russia's military campaign in Ukraine approached central Kiev on March 15 with a series of attacks targeting a residential area in the capital as the two countries planned a second day of talks.
Shortly before dawn, large explosions were heard throughout Kiev and the Ukrainian authorities suspected them to be artillery strikes. The shelling burned down a 15-storey apartment building. At least two people were killed and others were still trapped inside while rescue forces were extinguishing the fire.
Shock waves from an explosion also damaged the entrance to a metro station in the city center, which has been used as a bomb shelter. The city government Trump painted a blown-out front, saying trains would no longer stop at the station.
When Russia launched the war nearly three weeks ago, fears of an imminent attack engulfed the Ukrainian capital. Kiev residents sleep all night in metro stations or jostle on trains to escape.
But as the Russian attack slowed, Kiev was relatively calm. However, fighting has increased in the suburbs in recent days and the individual airstrike warning horn has rang around the capital.
On March 14, Russia and Ukraine held the 4th round of online negotiations. However, advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Mr. Mykhailo Podolyak, said the two sides had temporarily suspended the fourth round of talks until March 15. Speaking on Twiiter, Podolyak said the fourth round of Russia-Ukraine talks had temporarily suspended techniques to divid the working groups to work extra and to clarify certain definitions.
