Three individuals in Lao Cai were awarded certificates of merit by the Prime Minister for their outstanding achievements in preventing, searching for and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3.

On October 7, the Prime Minister signed a decision to award certificates of merit to Mr. Hoang Van Diep - Head of Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district); Mr. Ma Seo Chu - Head of Kho Vang village (Coc Lau commune, Bac Ha district) and Mr. Chau Van Chung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Hum commune (Bat Xat district) for their outstanding achievements in the work of preventing, fighting, searching, rescuing, and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 in Lao Cai province.

After the flash flood in Lang Nu village on September 10th that wiped out 37 houses, killed 58 people, and left 9 missing, Mr. Hoang Van Diep actively coordinated, guided, and supported the authorities, searched for people, and arranged funerals for those who were found.

Mr. Ma Seo Chu - Head of Kho Vang village was the one who organized the inspection and discovered the landslide, resolutely mobilizing 115 people to evacuate to a safe place, avoiding the landslide disaster that occurred on September 10. The landslide completely destroyed 6 houses of 34 people, 15 houses were severely damaged.

Chairman of Muong Hum Commune People's Committee Chau Van Chung was wise and promptly decided to direct the PCTT-TKCN Command Board to develop and deploy a specific plan in response to the impact of storm No. 3.

Notably, on the morning of September 9, upon receiving information that Bat Xat Secondary and High School was at risk of landslides, Mr. Chau Van Chung quickly approached, assessed the situation and promptly reported to the district leaders to urgently evacuate 130 students and 11 teachers to safety.

About 2 hours later, all 16 boarding rooms for students had completely collapsed.

According to statistics, the impact of storm No. 3 (Yagi) in Lao Cai province has left 239 people dead, missing and injured. Initial economic damage is estimated at over 6,800 billion VND.
