On May 17, An Giang Provincial People's Committee held a conference to announce the planning and investment promotion of An Giang province in Phu Quoc special zone. The conference was attended by leaders and former leaders of the Party and State. Politburo member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc attended and directed the conference.
The conference was organized with the theme: "An Giang - New Space, New Vision, New Success", expressing the province's determination to concretize the Planning, create a new development space, improve competitiveness, attract investment and promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic development in the coming period.
Speaking at the conference, Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung said that after a period of urgent, thorough, scientific and regulated preparation, the adjustment of the An Giang Provincial Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has been approved.
The conference is of great significance to An Giang province towards the goal of successfully implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 1st An Giang Provincial Party Congress, term 2025 - 2030, in which, achieving double-digit growth in the period 2026 - 2030.
In particular, in the current period, the synchronous deployment and implementation of 21 projects serving the APEC 2027 Conference in Phu Quoc Special Zone with a total investment of over 137,000 billion VND is of great significance, not only to ensure the conditions for successfully organizing a national-scale multilateral foreign affairs event, but also to be a premise for Phu Quoc to make strong breakthroughs in infrastructure, urban areas, tourism services, investment environment and quality of life. Thereby, forming a new growth pole of An Giang, contributing to enhancing the national position, spreading the development momentum for the region and making positive contributions to the overall development of the country.
Speaking to direct the conference, Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc said that today's event is of particular importance to An Giang and the Mekong Delta region.
In the past time, An Giang has always maintained its leading position in the Mekong Delta region in terms of economic growth rate and achieved many positive and comprehensive results in socio-economic fields, continuing to be a bright spot of the whole country.
The Standing Deputy Prime Minister emphasized: "An Giang cannot develop alone but can only develop quickly and sustainably on the basis of close regional linkages and must be placed in the national master plan. It is not only arranging development space within the administrative boundaries of the province but also a tool to reorganize the regional and national development space, allocate resources, and form dynamic zones, growth poles, and new economic corridors in accordance with the spirit of the Government's resolution on adjusting the national master plan".
Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc proposed, firstly, to urgently concretize and adjust the planning of the Mekong Delta region and the planning of An Giang province through action programs, implementation plans, lists of priority projects, specialized technical plans, land use plans and clear and feasible implementation mechanisms. Promptly organize the preparation of overall adjustments to the general planning of Phu Quoc urban area for the period to 2050, with a vision to 2065 to suit the long-term development requirements of the Phu Quoc special zone and have the nature of a sea and island urban area, the role of the nation and international.
Second, highly focus all resources and create conditions to implement on schedule, ensuring the quality of projects serving APEC 2027 High-Level Week.
Third, drastically remove the biggest bottlenecks hindering development. The focus is on completing strategic infrastructure, improving the quality of human resources, promoting digital transformation, improving the investment and business environment, drastically cutting administrative procedures, encouraging creative startups, accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital and strengthening the capacity to perform public duties. Strongly shift from management thinking to constructive service thinking, from resolving procedures to resolving results for people and businesses, from pre-inspection to post-inspection, risk management. Do not let the situation of suspended projects, suspended planning, prolonged procedures, and loss of opportunities for investors occur.
Fourth, focus on researching and establishing appropriate growth models to propose appropriate mechanisms and policies to promote the potential and strengths of An Giang in agriculture and services.
Fifth, promote socio-cultural development, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, implement social progress and justice in each policy, step by step in development. Economic development must go hand in hand with cultural development, environmental protection and ensuring social security. Pay attention to preserving and promoting the historical, traditional, diverse and unique cultural values of ethnic groups associated with tourism development.
From July 1, 2025 to now, the province has attracted investment in 29 projects with a total investment capital of more than 161,900 billion VND. In this phase, 19 projects with a total capital of more than 66,900 billion VND were awarded Investment Policy Approval Decisions and Investment Certificates.
At the Conference, comprehensive strategic cooperation was also signed with 4 units and 24 Memorandums of Understanding on cooperation in research and investment survey for strategic investors, with a total initial registered capital of nearly 1.5 million billion VND.
