In the autumn of 1945, under the wise leadership of our Party, led by President Ho Chi Minh, the entire Vietnamese people unanimously rose up to carry out the General Uprising, winning victory in the August Revolution - a "heaven-shattering, earth-shattering" revolution, shaking the political situation not only in the region but also worldwide.
With the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, the Republic of Vietnam Democracy was born on the basis of defeating the specialized monarchy for thousands of years and overthrowing the colonial chains for nearly 100 years. This is one of the greatest events, a brilliant golden page in history, a brilliant symbol of patriotism, indomitable will and aspiration for independence and freedom of the entire nation.
The August Revolution of 1945 is a typical example of the great strength of the Vietnamese people - the most important internal resource in all revolutionary victories. From North to South, from the plains to the mountains, from rural to urban areas, all classes of people are united, standing up to fight for national independence.
It is the revolutionary spirit, the aspiration to liberate the nation and the absolute belief in the Party's leadership that have gathered the power of uprising, creating the great victory of the entire nation.
In Hanoi, in the afternoon of September 2, 1945, on the podium in Ba Dinh Square, in front of tens of thousands of compatriots, President Ho Chi Minh, on behalf of the Provisional Government, solemnly read the historical Declaration of Independence, declaring to the whole world the existence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
The content of the Declaration has distilled the cultural quintessence of humanity that was expressed in the Declaration of Independence of the United States in 1776 and the Declaration of Human Rights and Civil Rights of the French Revolution in 1791. These are affirmations of the right to equality, the right to life, the right to freedom and the right to seek happiness of each person, of each nation.
In the Declaration of Independence, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: "Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence, and the truth is that it has become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese nation is determined to bring all its spirit and strength, life and property to maintain that right to freedom and independence".
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Dinh Phong - former Senior Lecturer, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, with the event of reading the Declaration of Independence, President Ho Chi Minh affirmed that the greatest political value of Vietnam is that Vietnam has truly become a free and independent country, having the right to enjoy freedom and independence.
The Declaration of Independence is the echo from thousands of generations, the source of will, bravery, and aspiration for independence and freedom of generations of Vietnamese people in the journey of building and defending the country.
Over time, national consciousness grew more and more, and national independence was further affirmed. With high determination, consensus and solidarity from top to bottom, with the strength of national unity, the entire nation overcame all challenges and hardships, organized victorious resistance wars against foreign invaders and affirmed its self-reliant independence with stern statements to the enemy.
In that journey, the August Revolution of 1945 was one of the most brilliant historical turning points and milestones, opening a new era of nationalism - an era of independence, freedom, happiness, national independence and socialism.
