President Luong Cuong holds phone talks with new South Korean President

On the morning of June 12, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong had a phone call with new President of South Korea Lee Jae Myung.

On behalf of the State and People of Vietnam, President Luong Cuong congratulated Mr. Lee Jae Myung on being elected the 21st President of the DPRK; and conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam and Vietnamese leaders to President Lee Jae Myung.

President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the President's importance in relations with the Asian region; at the same time, he emphasized that the earliest phone call this time shows the importance of relations with Vietnam; affirmed that Vietnam supports South Korea's development policies and believes that under the leadership of the President, South Korea will continue to develop prosperously and the people will be happy; South Korea's international role and position are increasingly enhanced, actively contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

President Luong Cuong expressed his delight at the achievements between the two countries after more than 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations, especially since the two countries upgraded their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance of always attaching importance to relations with Korea and hoping to work with the President to promote the two countries' relations to continue to develop substantially, effectively, comprehensively and long-term in the coming time.

For his part, President Lee Jae Myung expressed his deep gratitude to General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong for sending congratulatory messages immediately after the election results; affirmed that the Korean Government always considers Vietnam an important partner in the region and wishes to cooperate closely to promote the development of bilateral relations more strongly.

President Lee Jae Myung highly appreciated the national development achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times and wished to accompany the common development of the two countries; suggested that Vietnam continue to pay attention to creating favorable conditions for Korean enterprises to invest and expand the scale of investment in Vietnam in the coming time.

At the same time, the two leaders agreed to implement major directions to further deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership; continue to maintain and promote high-level and all-level delegation exchanges; expand international defense, security and crime prevention cooperation; continue to closely cooperate in implementing specific actions in economic, trade and investment cooperation to respond to current global challenges;

Bringing cooperation in science, technology, innovation, especially high-tech industries, into important pillars of cooperation to promote relations between the two countries; enhancing cooperation and mutual support at regional and international forums, including coordinating the successful implementation of the APEC 2025 Summit in Korea, the APEC 2027 Summit in Vietnam and co-chairing the Mekong - Korea Cooperation Mechanism.
