On July 29, Mr. Bui Cong Phu - Deputy Head of Trieu Phong Forest Protection Department, Quang Tri Province said that the unit had just received a pangolin voluntarily handed over by the people.
Previously, on the evening of July 28, Mr. Le Van Khoa (49 years old, residing at 17A Phan Chu Trinh, Quang Tri ward, Quang Tri province) was sitting in front of his house when he suddenly discovered a pangolin from the entrance.
Realizing that this was a rare wild animal, Mr. Khoa proactively arrested it and contacted the Quang Tri Ward Police to coordinate the handover to the forest rangers.
The pangolin is in good health, weighing 1.3kg, and about 50cm long.
According to Mr. Bui Cong Phu, this is a Java pangolin (Manis Javanica) - an animal in the Vietnam Red Book, an extremely endangered group due to being illegally hunted and traded in the market. Currently, the unit is completing procedures to release this individual into the natural forest environment.
