On May 5, at the Presidential Palace, right after the state-level welcoming ceremony, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong and the President of Sri Lanka held talks.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Luong Cuong thanked President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka for his participation and opening speech at the United Nations Buddha's hand ceremony (Vesak) held in Vietnam, as well as sent a congratulatory letter to Vietnamese leaders on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
Expressing his pleasure at visiting Vietnam, the first Southeast Asian country to visit after taking office, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka expressed his admiration for Vietnam's impressive development after 50 years of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said that the leaders and people of Sri Lanka always have warm friendship for Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh; admire Vietnam's indomitable fighting spirit in war as well as in building the Fatherland, and wish to learn from Vietnam's development experience.
The two sides agreed to constantly strengthen the traditional friendship and mutual understanding, promote higher visits, more frequent levels, strengthen cooperation between the two ruling parties, exchange between the people's organizations and the friendly solidarity of the two countries; Improve the effectiveness of cooperation mechanisms, especially the mixed committee of economic, trade and scientific cooperation to review and propose specific cooperation measures; amend, supplement and promote the signing of cooperation agreements in accordance with the new situation, study the ability to upgrade relations when there are conditions and consensus of the two parties.
The two sides agreed to promote more substantial defense, security and judicial cooperation, encourage increased exchanges, exchanges, expand training cooperation, improve capacity, coordinate the prevention and control of transnational crimes, cybercrime, law enforcement, consider signing defense, security and judicial cooperation agreements.
Emphasizing the potential of economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries is still very large, the two sides think that breakthrough measures should be taken effectively; agreed to promote the signing of economic, trade and investment cooperation agreements; Facilitate the opening of the country's strong goods approaching the other market, aiming to diversify the supply chain, strive to achieve the goal of bilateral turnover 1 billion USD and further increase two -way investment.

The President of Sri Lanka affirmed that he will create conditions to encourage Vietnamese enterprises to invest in strategic areas of Sri Lanka with high demand such as infrastructure, telecommunications, education, healthcare, high-tech agriculture, agricultural processing, food, retail, logistics, and tourism.
The two sides agreed to further expand cooperation in important areas such as agriculture, food security, science and technology, education, culture, religion, health, tourism, people-to-people exchanges; enhance sharing of experiences in developing marine economy, shipping, maritime connectivity; encourage airlines of the two countries to consider opening direct flights.
The President of Sri Lanka agreed to continue creating conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study and do business in Sri Lanka, including Vietnamese monks participating in studying Buddhism, encouraging Vietnamese pagodas, monasteries and Buddhist establishments in Sri Lanka.
After the talks, President Luong Cuong and President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayaka witnessed the signing of 5 cooperation documents in the fields of diplomacy, trade, customs, agriculture and machinery manufacturing.
