National Assembly Chairman proposes Italy to exempt visas for Vietnamese citizens

In the meeting with the Vice President of the Italian Senate, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed that Italy have a visa exemption policy for Vietnamese citizens.

Within the framework of the official visit to the Republic of Italy, on the afternoon of April 14 local time, in Rome, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received Italian Vice President of the Senate Licia Ronzulli.

The National Assembly Chairwoman affirmed that Vietnam highly values Italy's leading role and position in Europe and the world; and is pleased to see that relations between the two countries have developed positively in recent times, especially after the two sides upgraded relations to a Strategic Partnership in 2013.

The National Assembly Chairwoman assessed that the two countries still have much room to promote cooperation, especially in areas where Italy has strengths and Vietnam has needs such as high industry, digital transformation, digital economy...

The National Assembly of Vietnam and the Italian Parliament have exchanged and closely coordinated at regional and international interparliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Forum (ASEP)..., contributing to the development of the Vietnam-Italy Strategic Partnership.

In order to further deepen bilateral relations, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man proposed that the two sides promote delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels.

Regarding economy and trade, the National Assembly Chairwoman said that the two sides still have great potential for cooperation in the fields of fashion, garment, footwear, digital transformation, energy; proposed that the two sides continue to effectively implement the Mechanism of the Vietnam - Italy Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation; take advantage of the Vietnam - European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to strengthen investment cooperation in potential fields such as high technology, green economy, finance - services, logistics....

The National Assembly Chairwoman also proposed that Italy promote the remaining countries in the EU to soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVIPA), and the European Commission (EC) to soon consider lifting the yellow card for Vietnam's seafood exports, and remove Vietnam from the list of countries not cooperating on taxes.

Thanking Italy for allocating ODA capital to Vietnam over the years, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man requested Italy to continue to support ODA for Vietnam in priority areas.

The National Assembly Chairwoman proposed that Italy have a visa-free policy to facilitate Vietnamese citizens, and strengthen exchange programs and experience sharing in related fields.

Vice President of the Senate Licia Ronzulli highly agreed with the cooperation orientations of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; affirmed that Italy will promote the effective implementation of EVFTA and support the EVIPA ratification process, as well as Vietnam's efforts to remove the IUU "yellow card", considering this an important step to unlock investment and trade flows.

The Vice Chairman of the Senate expressed his pleasure at the large presence of Italian businesses in Vietnam with great potential for cooperation in energy, artificial intelligence, innovation, tourism...

Exchanging views on international and regional cooperation, the two sides agreed to strengthen contacts, consultations, cooperation and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations, within the ASEAN - EU framework, and inter-parliamentary forums to make positive contributions to global peace, stability and prosperity.
