On December 1, 2025, at the National Assembly House, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Brunei King Darussalam Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and a high-ranking delegation on a state visit to Vietnam.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man was pleased to welcome the King and the high-ranking Brunei delegation to visit and work with the Vietnamese National Assembly.
Appreciating the King's visit this time at a time when the two countries are making efforts to effectively implement the Action Program for the 2023-2027 period, the National Assembly Chairman believes that the visit will create new momentum to promote the Vietnam - Brunei Comprehensive Partnership to be more and more substantial and effective.
The National Assembly Chairman congratulated Brunei on its great development in all areas in recent times, and believed that Brunei would successfully implement the National Development Vision to 2035; affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the friendship and cooperation with Brunei in particular, as well as with ASEAN countries in general.
King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah thanked the warm and respectful reception of the leaders and people of Vietnam for the King and the high-ranking delegation of Brunei; expressed his delight at the two countries having maintained a close and friendly relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations and especially developed strongly after upgrading to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2019; hoping that the two countries would further promote cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.

Discussing cooperation on the parliamentary channel, the King of Brunei wished the 80th anniversary of the Vietnamese National Assembly in January 2026, saying that the regular exchanges of high-level delegations and delegations at all levels have contributed to making parliamentary cooperation increasingly deepened and practical; suggested that in the coming time, the two countries' legislative bodies continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation as well as closely coordinate at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums, including the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man agreed to strengthen cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the Brunei Legislative Council in the coming time, especially exchanging legislative experience, supervising and cooperating with the parliament.
In the context of many complicated changes in the regional and international situation, being two active and responsible members of ASEAN, the two sides agreed to continue to closely coordinate to strengthen solidarity and the central role of ASEAN; share a common stance in maintaining peace, stability, and respect for international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) on the East Sea issue, for peace, stability and regional development and the common interests of the people of ASEAN countries.
On this occasion, King Haji Hassanal Bolkiah respectfully invited National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to visit Brunei at an appropriate time. The National Assembly Chairman respectfully thanked and happily accepted.
