IPU President Tulia Ackson affirmed the historical significance of the 150th IPU General Assembly, the important role of IPU and its member parliaments in promoting persistent efforts, continuously through many sessions to promote democracy, international cooperation, build a more peaceful world, and realize the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ms. Tulia Ackson suggested that the IPU General Assembly focus on discussing the world and regional situation, sharing experiences, exchanging and seeking solutions to current challenges such as hunger eradication, poverty reduction, eliminating injustice, social inequality, narrowing the gap between developed and developing countries, creating sustainable jobs, effectively handling non-traditional security challenges, especially Climate Change, energy transition, green finance for green economy.

The IPU President said that IPU and its member parliaments need to take the lead in creating a legal framework, bridging the need to resolve disagreements, and taking practical actions to promote social development on three pillars of peace, justice and a fairer and better future for everyone; thereby making a practical contribution to the success of the United Nations Summit on Social Development, held in November 2025 in Doha, Qatar.
IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting peace, cooperation and development in regions and around the world, as well as ensuring a better life for people, through dialogue and cooperation, building trust and sharing experiences.
Mr. Martin Chungong said that in 2024, IPU has made efforts to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation at the global and regional levels, including in conflict areas, while announcing major and important events in 2025 such as the Second Parliamentary Conference on Inter-religious Dialogue in June 2025, the Conference of World Parliamentary Chairmen and the Conference of Women Presidentes of the World Parliament in July 2025.
The IPU Secretary General affirmed his determination to promote gender equality in the year of the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Action Steps, especially with the launch of the Gender Equality Campaign through Action in the parliaments, enhancing women's emulation, raising awareness, and combating discrimination and gender-based violence.
Regarding the results of IPU-150, Mr. Martin Chungong called for a meeting to discuss and approve two important resolutions on the role of the parliament in promoting the two-state solution in Palestine and on Reducing the impact of conflict on sustainable development.
The IPU-150 General Assembly will meet from April 6-9, 2025. According to the program, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will give an important speech at the General Discussion Session of the IPU 150 General Assembly.
