On June 15, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21,25 - June 21, 2025), Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met and congratulated press agencies.
Attending the meeting were members of the Party Central Committee: Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh.
At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and delegates reviewed the outstanding achievements of revolutionary journalism.
In which, it affirmed the particularly important role of the press in the revolutionary cause of the Party, the nation and in the activities of the National Assembly; and expressed gratitude for the great contributions of generations of Vietnamese revolutionary journalists.
At the same time, exchanged and shared to continue building a more close relationship between the National Assembly and the press; contributed many enthusiastic opinions to continue building policies and laws to create conditions for the press to develop more professionally and modernly, contributing to the cause of building a socialist rule-of-law state and sustainable national development.
Representatives of the National Assembly agencies, leaders of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, and leaders of press agencies discussed and discussed the basic orientations for amending the Press Law.
Discuss the development of specific mechanisms for key press agencies and multimedia; Vietnamese media in response to the requirements of policy innovation, digital transformation and development of multimedia platforms; institutions and policies for press development.
Point out the proposals to continue perfecting institutions and policies for the press to serve the activities of the National Assembly and People's Councils; policies for the press - media economy; the role of a bridge between the National Assembly and the People - requiring innovation of press performance models and policies.
In order to create a legal framework for press activities in the new period, the draft Press Law (amended) is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for comments at the 10th Session (October 2025).
Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Hai Binh said that the draft law focuses on institutionalizing the Party's guidelines and policies on press work; overcoming limitations and inadequacies in current press law.
Adjust and manage press activities appropriately in the context of the strong and rapid development of modern science, technology, and communication, creating a legal corridor for press activities to develop in the new era.
Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Newspaper Le Quoc Minh said that there needs to be a comprehensive, synchronous strategy from the legal framework to the organizational model, investment in technology and human resource development.
In particular, it is necessary to amend legal regulations to support and promote digital transformation in press agencies; build a mechanism for the State to order high-quality press products; have appropriate investment policies and financial mechanisms.
He suggested that a separate legal framework should be issued to regulate this activity, clearly defining the concept, criteria for content, product form, ordering process, acceptance and role of relevant agencies.
The State needs to establish a priority list for placing orders for digital journalism in each key field; the financial mechanism also needs to be adjusted to suit the characteristics of digital journalism.
