Digital transformation - the key for Vietnam to enter a new era

VƯƠNG TRẦN |

Digital transformation has become a key factor in helping countries enhance their competitiveness and promote socio-economic development. Vietnam, as one of the dynamically developing countries in Southeast Asia, is entering a new era with the expectation of strong growth through the digital transformation process.

Changes in daily life

Located about 1km from Lung Cu Flagpole, Lo Lo Chai village is home to more than 90% of Lo Lo ethnic people. Since the digital transformation was implemented, Mr. Sinh Di Gai, as the village chief, has regularly and actively worked with other village leaders to promote and guide the people, especially homestay businesses, to apply digital technology to promote and sell rooms. This has attracted more than 53,000 tourists to visit.

Or in the field of social insurance (SI), health insurance (HI), currently 100% of medical facilities have implemented medical examination and treatment (KCB) for health insurance using chip-embedded citizen identification cards (CCCD); ensuring to meet the requirements of looking up health insurance card information using personal identification numbers, CCCD.

Vietnam Social Security has connected with more than 13,000 medical facilities nationwide to receive data on payment of health insurance costs. This is an important basis for the implementation of the Electronic Health Book. Vietnam Social Security has upgraded and completed the VssID application - Social Insurance Number. Currently, there are more than 36 million electronic transaction accounts nationwide, used to log in to use the VssID application, more than 5.5 million times using the health insurance card image on the VssID application to carry out health insurance procedures.

The revolution brought the country to remarkable development.

On the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, General Secretary and President To Lam wrote an important article: "Digital transformation - an important driving force for developing productive forces, perfecting production relations, bringing the country into a new era".

In 2024, the national digital transformation theme is: "Developing the digital economy with 4 pillars of information technology industry, digitalization of economic sectors, digital governance, digital data - Important driving force for fast and sustainable socio-economic development".

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Van Phuc - Vice Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Central Party Agencies, the message of the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise has been mentioned and emphasized many times recently by General Secretary, President To Lam and other Party and State leaders. In particular, with the country's achievements in nearly 40 years of renovation, Vietnam has the "position and strength" to determine the starting point of the era of rise.

Mr. Phuc emphasized that it is necessary to consider the development of science and technology as a truly top national policy; a key driving force for development; to strongly shift from applying and "imitating" existing technology to innovating and creating technology, developing new, advanced and modern technology - considering it a strategic breakthrough. At the same time, apply digital transformation to create Vietnamese goods, making Vietnam develop strongly.

Recognizing that our country has achieved many great achievements after nearly 40 years of national renovation, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Thao - former Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council - said that the theoretical achievements in the field of the country's economy are very great.

For the country to grow strongly, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Thao believes that strong changes are needed, and digital transformation is one of the keys for our country to enter the era of growth.

Investing in digital infrastructure and human resources

Dr. Le Trung Kien - Ho Chi Minh Institute and Party leaders - said that digital transformation is not only a driving force for economic development but also an opportunity to promote innovation. According to Dr. Le Trung Kien, although digital transformation brings many benefits, it is not without major challenges. One of the biggest obstacles is the shortage of technology infrastructure and high-quality human resources. Vietnam needs to invest more in upgrading network infrastructure, while training and developing digital human resources to meet the increasing demands of the labor market. In addition, ensuring network security and personal information security are also important factors that need to be focused on.
