At the meeting, General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of Defense - highly appreciated the meaning of the visit of General Maruli Simanjuntak in the context of the two countries that have just upgraded the comprehensive strategic partnership on the state visit to Indonesia of General Secretary To Lam (March 2025) (December 30, 1955 - December 30, 2025), practically deploying the general perception of the Minister of Defense on the sidelines of the visit to Indonesia by General Secretary To Lam.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong emphasized that Vietnam and Indonesia are two neighboring countries at sea, with many similarities in benefits; highly appreciated the great achievements in economy, society, national defense, security as well as Indonesia's position and role in the international and regional arena.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong assessed that Vietnam - Indonesia defense cooperation has been highly valued by both sides in recent times and has achieved many substantial results.
On this occasion, General Nguyen Tan Cuong respectfully thanked the Indonesian Ministry of National Defense for sending delegations to attend the 80th Anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th Anniversary of the National Defense Day and the 2nd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition in December 2024.
General Maruli Simanjuntak also informed General Nguyen Tan Cuong of the results of the previous talks on the same day with Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia - Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army.
Accordingly, the two sides assessed the results of cooperation between the two countries' military forces in recent times, and exchanged directions to develop this cooperative relationship more and more substantially and effectively in the coming time. General Maruli Simanjuntak affirmed that he will strive to promote the implementation of agreed cooperation contents.
Appreciating the results of the talks, General Nguyen Tan Cuong expressed his hope that in the coming time, the military forces of the two countries will continue to promote exchanges and delegation exchanges at all levels; cooperate in training human resources and potential fields; coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums and mechanisms led by ASEAN; affirmed that they will support and create conditions for the military forces of the two countries to promote substantive cooperation.
