On December 10, in Hanoi, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense held a meeting with Vietnamese veterans to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).
General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense - attended and chaired the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang expressed his excitement and joy to welcome the veterans.
General Phan Van Giang briefed on the current situation in the world, region and the country; plots, tricks and sabotage activities of hostile forces; outstanding results in military and defense work, Party building of the Army in 2024; key directions and tasks in 2025; activities of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day.
The Minister of National Defense emphasized: Over the past 80 years of building, fighting, winning and growing of our Army, each feat, achievement, maturity and growth of the Vietnam People's Army has left a deep mark of the trust and care of the Party and State, the love and care of the people, and the close coordination of central and local departments, ministries and branches, including the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association.
Over the years, the Veterans Associations at all levels have always accompanied and closely coordinated with the Ministry of National Defense and agencies and units in the entire army to organize many activities in all fields; in particular, they have shared and participated in many valuable opinions, together with the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to advise the Party and State in planning and implementing military and defense policies and strategies as well as in the fight to defeat the false and distorted arguments of hostile and reactionary forces aiming to "depoliticize" the Army.
Speaking at the program, Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong - Chairman of the Vietnam Veterans Association - expressed his sincere and deep gratitude to the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense for their attention and support to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association and generations of Vietnamese veterans.
With a positive spirit, proactively overcoming all difficulties, solidarity and efforts, the Vietnam Veterans Association has successfully completed its assigned tasks. Generations of veterans have actively built a strong political system, participated in socio-economic development, and have been highly appreciated by the Party Committee, government and people.
All levels of the Vietnam Veterans Association demonstrate their determination to constantly care for building a strong association with members who have qualities, abilities, and solid political will, preserve and promote the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, contributing to beautifying the glorious tradition of the Vietnam Veterans Association and the heroic Vietnam People's Army.
