From August 19 - 20, 2026, within the framework of his working trip to the US, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang had meetings with US Deputy Secretary of State Thomas DiNanno, Deputy National Security Advisor Andrew Baker, US Deputy Trade Representative Rick Switzer, National Security Advisor to Vice President J.D. Vance Cliff Sims, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia and ASEAN Hunt VanderToll; exchanged views with former US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink, Senior Advisor to The Asia Group; worked with the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and Heritage Foundation.
At the exchanges, US partners positively assessed the development steps of the two countries' relations in the past time, affirmed their importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and expressed their views on bilateral cooperation prospects.
The US side believes that the good development of Vietnam-US relations is not only in line with the interests of the people of the two countries but also has positive significance for peace, stability and development in the region; wishing the two sides to continue to coordinate to make the relationship increasingly deeper, more substantive and effective.
The US side highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements, increasing role and position in the region and internationally; and at the same time assessed that the two countries still have great potential for cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science and technology, digital transformation, energy and new economic sectors. Representatives of the US business community expressed confidence in the prospects of the Vietnamese market, committing to continue to promote cooperation projects and expand investment in the coming time.
For his part, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that Vietnam is entering a new era of development; striving to achieve a double-digit growth target, in which science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are identified as the most important breakthroughs and the main driving force for innovating the growth model, improving productivity, competitiveness and bringing the country to rapid and sustainable development.
The Deputy Minister assessed that Vietnam-US relations continue to maintain positive development after the meeting between General Secretary To Lam (now General Secretary, President) and President Donald Trump in February 2026; exchange and contact activities are maintained regularly, and cooperation is increasingly expanded in many fields.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam values and wishes to continue to bring the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to stable, substantive and long-term development with the US; requested the two sides to strengthen coordination in implementing high-level agreements, further promote the potential of economic, trade, investment, science and technology, energy and new fields, and continue to cooperate in overcoming the consequences of war.
The two sides agreed to maintain exchanges and close coordination, contributing to strengthening Vietnam-US relations and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.
