As Lao Dong reported, Associate Professor Dang Bich Ha - wife of General Vo Nguyen Giap, passed away at 0:50 on September 17.
Ms. Dang Bich Ha was born in 1928 in Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province. She is the eldest daughter of Professor Dang Thai Mai (former Minister of Education, first Director of Institute of Vietnam Literature).
Information from General Vo Nguyen Giap's family said that today (September 28), the funeral of General Vo Nguyen Giap's wife took place at the National Funeral Home, No. 5, Tran Thanh Tong, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi.
Visitation time is from 12:00 to 15:30 on September 28. Memorial service will be held at 15:30 on the same day.
Her funeral will be held on the morning of September 29 at Vung Chua - Yen Island.
Mr. Vo Hong Nam - son of General Vo Nguyen Giap and Mrs. Dang Bich Ha - said that when his parents were alive, they wished to be buried next to each other. Therefore, after Mrs. Ha passed away, their children and grandchildren carried out their last wish.
Mr. Vo Hong Nam said the family wanted to hold a solemn but simple funeral. The organizing committee had prepared wreaths, and visitors only needed to bring a ribbon. The family did not accept any condolences.
Journalist, Colonel Tran Hong - who spent 20 years following General Vo Nguyen Giap to record the simple moments of the Commander-in-Chief - expressed his condolences at the passing of Ms. Dang Bich Ha.
Through many meetings, Colonel Tran Hong expressed his clear impression that Mrs. Ha is a kind woman, living a simple, sincere life, and loving her husband and children very much. She is also an extremely modest person, never using her position as the General's wife to make things difficult for others.
"Mrs. Dang Bich Ha represents the qualities of Vietnamese women, taking care of her husband and children completely," Mr. Hong said, feeling that in his impression, General Vo Nguyen Giap and his wife were a perfect couple in every aspect.
Sharing many memories, Colonel Tran Hong recalled a saying that made him remember forever and respect the General's wife even more. "That was one time, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Hanh - Mrs. Ha's younger sister - when she was still alive asked "What is your happiness?", Mrs. Ha replied "My happiness is having Mr. Van". The short sentence but encapsulated her love for him" - Colonel Tran Hong shared.
