On March 24, information from the Department of Home Affairs of Nghe An province said that it had just sent a document to localities, guiding and suggesting the arrangement of commune-level units in the province.
Nghe An province currently has an area of 16,489.97 km2, a population of more than 3.4 million people, including 20 district-level administrative units and 412 commune-level administrative units.
It is expected that after the arrangement, the whole province will have about 88 - 95 commune-level administrative units. Based on current regulations, criteria on geographical location, population size, area and according to the Central Government's expected rate of reducing the number of administrative units after the arrangement, the Department of Home Affairs has proposed the number of commune-level administrative units for district-level administrative units.
Vinh City: 33 units → 3 units; Thai Hoa Town: 9 units → 2 units; Hoang Mai Town: 10 units → 2 units; Que Phong District: 13 units → 3 units; Quy Chau District: 12 units → 3 units; Ky Son District: 21 units → 8 units.
Tuong Duong District: 17 units → 6-7 units; Nghia Dan District: 20 units → 4 units; Quy Hop District: 21 units → 4-5 units; Quynh Luu District: 25 units → 5-6 units; Con Cuong District: 12 units → 4 units.

Nghi Loc District: 23 units → 5-6 units; Nam Dan District: 17 units → 5 units; Hung Nguyen District: 15 units → 3 units.
According to the Department of Home Affairs of Nghe An province, from these suggestive plans, the authorities still have many steps to implement and revise before submitting the optimal plan.

In the above plan, Ky Son district is the locality with 8 commune-level administrative units after the reorganization, the most in the province.
Explaining the above issue, the leader of the Department of Home Affairs of Nghe An province said that due to the characteristics of Ky Son district as a border district, mountainous areas, there is a basis to estimate the number of commune-level administrative units after the above arrangement.
The Department of Home Affairs requests the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to urgently plan and send the plan to the Department of Home Affairs before March 28, 2025.
