On the afternoon of July 2nd, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received Chairman of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Maeda Tadashi, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
At the reception, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung wished JBIC to support Vietnam in improving the autonomy and resilience of the economy by promoting investment by Japanese businesses in strategic areas such as semiconductor, AI, batteries, new materials, essential minerals and high-tech industry; researching and expanding forms of financial support, investment guarantees and co-financing for new investment projects as well as public-private partnerships, mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities of Japanese businesses in Vietnam to promote technology transfer, improve governance capacity and strengthen supply chain links between Vietnam and Japan.
Appreciating the efforts of the parties in the past time, the Prime Minister also requested the parties to continue to pay attention to and support the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical project to operate more smoothly and effectively in the spirit of sincerity and mutual benefit.
Welcoming the fact that 5/15 projects have been and are being prepared to be implemented within the framework of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative, the Prime Minister requested JBIC to be more flexible in lending procedures for the remaining projects for early implementation; and at the same time study proposals and recommendations on contents that Vietnamese businesses can take advantage of at the POWERR Asia mechanism (Asian Energy and Resource Resilience Partnership Initiative).
JBIC President Maeda Tadashi shared cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Japan in various fields; some recommendations for Vietnam to more effectively attract capital from financial institutions and the private sector; assessed some recent developments in the world and impacts on Vietnam.
Mr. Maeda Tadashi said that JBIC wants to continue to promote specific cooperation projects with Vietnam on the basis of good relations between the two countries, concretizing the important results in Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's visit to Vietnam and in line with Vietnam's strategic and long-term orientations.
JBIC Chairman also said that Japan is Vietnam's leading partner in ODA, but in the new development stage, to promote strong growth, Vietnam needs to further promote the private sector with public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms; this is an area where JBIC has a lot of experience and wants to accompany Vietnamese partners to implement.
JBIC wants to promote cooperation with Vietnam, promote existing mechanisms to promote 15 projects in the AZEC mechanism that the two sides have agreed upon with a total capital of about 20 billion USD, as well as electricity and oil and gas projects, supporting Vietnam to strengthen its energy resilience within the framework of the POWERR Asia initiative.
Mr. Maeda Tadashi also said that JBIC is promoting cooperation with third countries in developing the field of semiconductor and artificial intelligence in Vietnam, such as semiconductor supply chains, data centers; supporting startups, investing in start-ups and young businesses in Vietnam through venture capital funds; as well as cooperating in developing the Vietnam International Financial Center, promoting cultural cooperation...
