At the reception, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung affirmed that Vietnam always considers Australia a reliable friend, a Comprehensive Strategic Partner with great potential and increasing position and role in the region, sharing many strategic benefits with Vietnam; expressed his pleasure that all 6 key areas in the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2024-2027 have been implemented on schedule, and have basically completed 96% so far.
To further strengthen political trust between the two countries, the Prime Minister requested the two sides to prepare well for high-level exchange activities between the two countries, hoping to welcome the Prime Minister of Australia to visit Vietnam again and attend the APEC 2027 Summit; requested the two sides to maintain regular bilateral cooperation mechanisms in all fields.
Emphasizing that the two countries still have much room for cooperation, the Prime Minister requested the two sides to implement breakthrough measures to realize the target of trade turnover to 20 billion USD and double two-way investment in the coming time; requested Australia to continue to open markets for Vietnamese goods, agricultural and aquatic products and maintain stable fuel supply; limit trade barriers and anti-dumping investigations.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including Australian businesses, to invest and do long-term business in Vietnam and will continue to improve the legal basis, especially the implementation of the Politburo's Resolution on economic development with foreign investment capital; requested Australia to create conditions for Vietnamese investment projects in Australia; and at the same time continue to support training and capacity building for Vietnamese officials and civil servants, especially leaders and managers at all levels.
Australian Ambassador Gillian Bird emphasized that Australia always accompanies, supports, and assists Vietnam in implementing reforms to achieve development goals; affirmed her desire to continue to contribute to promoting the relationship between the two countries to develop more substantively and effectively, especially in the fields of trade - investment, education - training, and supporting science and technology development.
Ambassador Gillian Bird affirmed that she will continue to closely coordinate with ministries, branches, and localities of Vietnam to promote bilateral cooperation in all fields; in which, prepare carefully for high-level delegation exchange activities in the coming time, promote Australia's investment in Vietnam on the basis of the Southeast Asian Economic Strategy to 2040, and continue to support training and capacity building for Vietnamese officials and civil servants.
On this occasion, Ambassador Gillian Bird happily announced that Australia will provide nearly 100 million AUD in total development aid to Vietnam in fiscal year 2026-2027, focusing on cooperation in science and technology, skills development and human resources, and climate change response.
