On March 21, the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province confirmed that in order to prepare for the arrangement and merger of commune-level administrative units, Quang Tri province has implemented work, initially having a draft.
According to the draft, 119 commune-level administrative units in the province will merge into more than 30 communes.
If the unofficial criteria are followed, the number of commune-level administrative units in Quang Tri will be significantly reduced. The reason is that many communes in the province's mountainous areas have large areas, but have small populations, while communes with just enough people have small areas.
"If both the criteria of population and area are calculated, when merging, the number of commune-level administrative units will decrease by more than 70%. We are currently waiting for the set of criteria to be officially approved to immediately merge the commune-level administrative unit" - the leader of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province informed.
Also according to the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province, the locality has proposed that when merging 4 mountainous communes, if one of the two criteria is met, it will be approved.
At the Conference to disseminate the policy of the Politburo and the Secretariat on reorganizing the apparatus of the political system organized by the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee on March 19, Mr. Nguyen Long Hai - Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee said that the progress of streamlining the apparatus requires a lot of speed, the workload is very large. Regarding the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units, not organizing district-level units and merging commune-level units with a large scale, the subjects are greatly affected, requiring the entire political system to be determined, make great efforts, and act decisively.
Mr. Nguyen Long Hai suggested that the Provincial People's Committee urgently review the headquarters and facilities of local authorities at all levels. At the same time, it is necessary to have a solution to handle, avoid waste and proactively build a dossier for the project to arrange and reorganize grassroots administrative units throughout the province.
