Dong Thap - Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - was elected to hold the position of Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee for the term 2026 - 2031.

On the afternoon of September 9, at the Dong Thap Provincial Conference Center (My Tho ward), the 11th Dong Thap Provincial People's Council held the 4th Session - a thematic session to consolidate key leaders of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2026 - 2031 term. Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Council - chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the Dong Thap Provincial People's Council implemented the process of electing the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan - Deputy Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee - was introduced to the Provincial People's Council for consideration and election to hold the position of Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee for the 2026 - 2031 term. As a result, the Provincial People's Council unanimously elected Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan to hold the position of Chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan takes on a new task replacing Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai. Previously, the Prime Minister decided to transfer and appoint Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - to hold the position of Deputy Inspector General of the Government.

Speaking at the opening of the session, Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Thap province - said that personnel consolidation is aimed at continuing to consolidate the local government apparatus, ensuring continuous, smooth, effective and efficient direction and administration in the new period.

According to Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong, the work of preparing replacement personnel has been carried out seriously, closely, and in accordance with regulations by the Central Government and the Provincial Party Committee. The Central Government and the province agreed to introduce Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan - a cadre with basic training, grown from practice, with bravery and management experience from the grassroots level - for the Provincial People's Council to consider and elect to hold the position of Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Setting requirements for the apparatus after consolidation, the Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee emphasized: "Personnel consolidation is to consolidate strength; but the substantive movement of the apparatus is what voters and people are waiting for". According to Mr. Ngo Chi Cuong, the success of the session is not only measured by the completed procedures, but must be measured by "new vitality, new effectiveness" in each field, each policy reaching the People.

Before being elected as Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan was Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Party Agencies. On September 7, Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee announced the Decision of the Secretariat on personnel work. Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan was transferred and appointed by the Secretariat to participate in the Executive Committee and Standing Committee of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, holding the position of Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan was born on August 23, 1977, from Phuoc Hoa commune, Ho Chi Minh City; his current residence is To Chau ward, An Giang province. Mr. Nhan holds a degree in Economics, Construction Engineer and Advanced Political Theory.

From July 2026, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan holds the position of Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Party Agencies. Previously, from July 2025 to July 2026, he held the position of Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of An Giang province.
