On October 25, continuing the 10th Session, the National Assembly held a separate meeting on personnel work under the direction of Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
The National Assembly listened to Standing Vice Chairman of the Delegation Work Committee Nguyen Huu Dong present a report summarizing the opinions of National Assembly deputies discussed at the delegation on approving the appointment of a number of ministers for the 2021-2026 term.
The National Assembly listened to National Assembly Standing Committee member, Permanent Deputy Head of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Manh (assigned to perform the duties of Secretary General of the National Assembly) present the draft Resolutions of the National Assembly on personnel work.
With 427/427 delegates participating in the vote, the National Assembly passed a Resolution approving the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Mr. Tran Duc Thang as Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
Mr. Tran Duc Thang was born in 1973, from Vinh Phuc province (now Phu Tho province), with a doctoral degree.
During his working career, he has held positions such as: Deputy Director and then Director of the Department of Asset Management (Ministry of Finance), Member of the 12th Central Inspection Committee.
He held the position of Deputy Head of the 12th Central Inspection Commission in 2020.
Then, at the end of January 2021, at the 13th National Congress of the Party, he was elected as a member of the 13th Party Central Committee, term 2021-2026.
He was re-elected by the Executive Committee to the 13th Party Central Inspection Committee; elected to hold the position of Deputy Head of the 13th Central Inspection Committee (from February 2021).
From October 2022, he will be the Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
From July 1, 2025, he was transferred, assigned and appointed by the Prime Minister to hold the position of Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.
On July 17, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued Decision No. 1559/QD-TTg to transfer Mr. Tran Duc Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate, to work at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, assigning the authority of the Minister of Agriculture and Environment.
