According to the Central Commission for External Relations' announcement, General Secretary To Lam and his wife will officially visit Malaysia from November 21-23 at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife.
"The official visit to Malaysia by General Secretary To Lam is of great significance in consolidating and further promoting the already excellent relationship between Malaysia and Vietnam," said Deputy Ambassador of Malaysia in Hanoi Cik Aida Safura Niza Othman.
The Malaysian Deputy Ambassador pointed out that in 2023, Malaysia and Vietnam will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, marked by the successful official visit of Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Hanoi in July 2023. This year, General Secretary To Lam's visit to Malaysia at the invitation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim continues to reflect the commitment of both countries to strengthen the relationship between the two sides.
"Vietnam is an important partner of Malaysia and we expect that the visit will create momentum for a series of areas such as: economic, trade and investment cooperation; cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and green technology; information and communication technology; digital economy; tourism, cultural and educational exchanges as well as strengthening regional cooperation, especially within the framework of ASEAN" - said the Malaysian diplomat.
Deputy Ambassador Cik Aida Safura Niza Othman commented that since upgrading to Strategic Partnership in 2015, the Vietnam - Malaysia relationship has grown strongly in a very positive direction that both sides are aiming for.
Economically, Vietnam is an important trading partner of Malaysia and Malaysia is one of the leading investors of Vietnam. The two sides have great potential to further promote trade cooperation, especially in emerging areas such as: Digital Economy, e-commerce and sustainable energy.
"Both countries are committed to diversifying trade, shifting from traditional goods to higher value sectors such as technology and renewable energy. This will be the key to future economic growth for both countries," the Malaysian Deputy Ambassador noted.
The Deputy Ambassador pointed out that in the field of people-to-people exchanges, Malaysia and Vietnam are increasingly connecting closely between social organizations as well as the people of the two countries. Educational and cultural exchanges as well as tourism continue to grow, contributing to strengthening deep understanding and appreciation of each other’s traditional values. The two sides will also continue to cooperate closely towards an increasingly cohesive and self-reliant ASEAN region.
"Looking to the future, the prospects for Malaysia-Vietnam relations are extremely good and both sides are committed to further promoting this momentum," Deputy Ambassador Cik Aida Safura Niza Othman affirmed.
