Deputy Prime Minister directs investment in upgrading and expanding Rach Gia airport

The Deputy Prime Minister requested to urgently complete the detailed planning of Rach Gia airport and submit it to the Ministry of Construction for approval according to regulations.

The Government Office has just issued Document No. 6321/VPCP-CN conveying the opinion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on investing in upgrading and expanding Rach Gia Airport (Rach Gia Airport).

Considering the proposal of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province (now An Giang province) on the proposal to invest in upgrading and expanding Rach Gia airport, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha gave the following opinion:

The People's Committee of Kien Giang province (now An Giang province) urgently completed the detailed planning of Rach Gia airport, and submitted it to the Ministry of Construction for approval according to regulations.

Deploy investment preparation for the Rach Gia airport expansion project according to the provisions of Clause 1, Article 11 of the PPP Law and the direction of the Government leaders; proactively coordinate with the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance and relevant agencies in updating the planning, arranging capital and implementing the project.

The Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Finance closely coordinate with the People's Committee of Kien Giang province (now An Giang province) during the implementation process, reporting to the Prime Minister on issues beyond their authority.

Currently, the Rach Gia airport airfield was built in 1960 and was renovated and upgraded by the Southern Airports Cluster twice (in 1997 and from October 2006 to April 2007) and repaired and enhanced with a soft layer structure in 2014, and is still in use today, including a runway of 1,500mx30m; a connecting taxiway of 49.28 m x 15 m; an aircraft parking lot of 165.7 mx 87.6 m.
