On June 10, at the meeting with voters before the 2025 mid-term session of the 10th term People's Council (term 2021-2026), Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Trung Chinh said that if approved by the Central Government, the new Da Nang City government - formed after the merger with Quang Nam province - is expected to officially operate from July 1.
According to Mr. Chinh, after the merger, the current Da Nang City People's Council will complete its political tasks and, together with the Quang Nam Provincial People's Council, merge into the new Da Nang City People's Council. The mid-year session, scheduled to be held at the end of June, will be the last session of the current People's Council.
The city is urgently implementing preparations for the new government apparatus, including testing the transfer of cadres and rearranging administrative headquarters at the ward and commune levels. The organization is being further improved to comply with the new administrative scale after the merger, with an infrastructure connection system including two airports, three seaports, an inter-regional transport network and additional human resources from Quang Nam.
Also during the meeting, the Chairman of the City People's Committee reviewed the socio-economic development situation in the past nearly 5 years. He said that in May 2021, the city held an election in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic. Thanks to the coordination of the entire political system, business community and people, the city has both ensured health safety, maintained political stability and security, and effectively recovered the economy.
As of the first quarter of 2025, Da Nang recorded GRDP growth of 11.36%, ranking fourth in the country and the locality with the largest economic scale in the Central Coast region. Budget revenue of the whole city and districts all exceeded the plan set for the first 6 months of the year.
Along with that, the fields of digital transformation, smart city construction, and innovative startups have achieved positive results, with the digital economy contributing about 23% to the overall growth rate.
Regarding social security policies, the city has implemented many humanitarian programs such as tuition exemption, support for medical examination and treatment, and building houses for people with meritorious services and the poor. In the health sector alone, the city budget has invested over VND5,000 billion over the past 5 years.
However, the Chairman of the City People's Committee also acknowledged the remaining problems, affirming that when the two-level government model comes into operation, the settlement of petitions and recommendations from the people will be prioritized to be implemented in a spirit of killing the people and more effectively.
