On April 17, the Standing Committee of Phu Yen Provincial Party Committee held a conference to give opinions on the plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units when streamlining the apparatus. This is an important basis for collecting public opinions before submitting to competent authorities for consideration and approval.
Currently, Phu Yen province has a natural area of over 5,025km2, with over 1 million people. The whole province has 9 district-level administrative units (including 6 districts, 2 towns, 1 city) and 106 commune-level administrative units (including 82 communes, 18 wards, 6 towns).

Based on the proposed plan to reorganize commune-level administrative units from localities and the regulations of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the People's Committee of Phu Yen province has developed a plan to reduce from 106 commune-level units to 34 units (including 27 communes and 7 wards), reducing 67.92% of the total number of commune-level administrative units.
The notable point in this plan is the unification of the establishment of Phu Yen ward - a new administrative unit formed on the basis of a part of the natural area and population of localities in Tuy Hoa city, Dong Hoa town and Tay Hoa district.
Chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee Ta Anh Tuan said that the naming of Phu Yen ward shows the aspirations of many cadres and people and is in line with the development orientation of the new central urban area. This ward is located south of the Ba River, with a large area, favorable for development space and infrastructure connection.
The new ward has an airport, high-speed roads, high-speed railways, and high-speed railway passenger terminals. This area is oriented to form a VSIP industrial park, creating momentum for socio-economic development.
"The Provincial People's Committee is also considering proposing that the Provincial People's Council allow the naming of Phu Yen for some locally iconic works such as squares, streets...", Mr. Ta Anh Tuan informed.
Speaking at the conference, Phu Yen Provincial Party Secretary Cao Thi Hoa An emphasized that the arrangement of administrative units is a major policy, aiming to streamline the apparatus, build a "Refined - Compact - Strong - Effective - Effective - Efficient" political system, better serve the people, and at the same time create momentum to promote socio-economic development.
Regarding the boundary plan of communes and wards after the arrangement, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa An requested to ensure convenience for people in travel, living and production. The naming of new administrative units needs to inherit history, have local cultural identity and achieve high consensus through widely collecting opinions from the people.
