On April 9, the Central Steering Committee for the Month of Action on occupational safety and hygiene met and agreed on the Plan to organize the launching ceremony of the Month of Action on occupational safety and hygiene and Workers' Month in 2025.
Deputy Director of the Department of Employment (Ministry of Home Affairs) Chu Thi Hanh said: The Month of Labor Safety and Hygiene (1-31) will be launched along with Workers' Month with the theme "Strengthening assessment, identification of risks and risks and proactively implementing measures to ensure occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace".
During the Action Month, there will be many activities at the central and local levels such as: Implementing Directive 31-CT/TW of the Secretariat on continuing to strengthen the Party's leadership in occupational safety and hygiene; organizing inspection and self-inspection activities at enterprises and employers.
At the meeting, members of the Steering Committee informed about the situation of work accidents in 2024.
According to reports from 62/63 provinces and centrally run cities, in 2024, there were 8,286 work-related accidents (TNLD) nationwide, causing 8,472 victims.
The above figures were recorded in both areas with labor relations and areas where workers work without labor contracts.
The number of female workers and laborers who died was 675 cases, an increase of 13 cases, equivalent to 1.96% compared to 2023, of which: the area with labor relations was 535 cases, an increase of 32 cases, equivalent to 6.36% compared to 2023; the area where workers work without labor contracts was 140 cases, a decrease of 19 cases, equivalent to 11.95% compared to 2023.
The number of people dying from unemployment insurance is 727 people, an increase of 28 people, equivalent to 4.81% compared to 2023, of which: The area with labor relations is 584 people, an increase of 54 people, equivalent to 10.2% compared to 2023; the area of workers working without labor contracts is 143 people, a decrease of 26 people, equivalent to 15.4% compared to 2023.
According to preliminary reports from localities, material damage caused by work-related accidents in 2024 such as: Costs for medicine, burial, compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured... is over 42,565 billion VND (an increase of about 26,208 billion VND compared to 2023);
Property damage is over VND492 billion (down about VND230 billion compared to 2023); the total number of days off due to unemployment is 154,759 days (an increase of about 4,989 days compared to 2023).
Notably, the localities with the largest number of deaths due to unemployment insurance in 2024 include areas with labor relations and areas with people working without labor contracts such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Binh Phuoc, Long An, Thai Binh.
Explaining why the above 9 localities have the largest number of deaths due to unemployment insurance in 2024 in both regions, according to the leader of the Department of Employment, these are localities with many industrial parks and a large number of workers, so unemployment insurance often occurs. In provinces with few industrial parks, this situation will rarely occur.
The Steering Committee agreed to organize a launching ceremony for this important event on the morning of April 25, at the Friendship Labor Cultural Palace (No. 91 Tran Hung Dao, Hanoi). On the afternoon of April 25, the National Council Dialogue Program on Occupational Safety and Hygiene will also be held at this location.
