Sharing with VNA, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Do Minh Hung said that this is the first visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the UK in 12 years, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership (2010-2025) and taking place in the context of the two countries promoting multifaceted cooperation through the framework of the extremely good Development Strategic Partnership in recent years.
"The visit is of great significance, an opportunity for the two sides to discuss and agree on the orientation of promoting and raising relations to new heights in the coming period, increasing political trust, improving the effectiveness of cooperation in traditional fields such as trade - investment, education - training, science - technology, and expanding cooperation in new fields that are the strength of the UK and in line with Vietnam's development requirements such as finance, high technology, strategic infrastructure, green energy, sustainable development" - Ambassador Do Minh Hung emphasized.
The Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK said that during the visit, the two sides plan to sign and approve many important cooperation documents in the fields of politics - diplomacy, economics - trade, science - technology, green transformation and sustainable development. Many cooperation agreements between universities and businesses of the two countries will also be signed, opening up great opportunities in training, research, finance - banking and health, the UK's strengths and in line with Vietnam's development orientation.
According to Ambassador Do Minh Hung, the official visit of General Secretary To Lam is of great significance, especially in promoting and elevating the relationship to new heights in the coming period.
"The potential for cooperation between the two countries is still assessed to be very large, especially in the areas of strength of the UK and in line with Vietnam's development goals such as digital transformation, innovation, financial - banking cooperation, especially the International Financial Center project in Vietnam, sustainable energy, human resource development, and scientific research. The two sides agreed that the above areas of cooperation will be new driving forces for multifaceted cooperation in the new development stage" - the Ambassador shared.
Sharing with VNA, Mr. Kyril Whittaker - a political and historical researcher of Vietnam, a member of the British Communist Party (CPB) - commented that General Secretary To Lam's visit to the UK not only helps further develop the current good cooperation between the two countries, but also creates a forum for the UK Government to learn about the rapid development of Vietnam.
The British scholar said that since 2013, the UK Government has been very impressed by the development of Vietnam's economy with a growth rate of 6%/year, considering this a country with a positive business environment for UK businesses. This growth rate has continued since then, even despite challenging international developments.
Mr. Kyril Whittaker also said that the era of the Vietnamese people's rise will open up many cooperation opportunities for the two countries, with continuous growth along with the development of many large-scale infrastructure projects in Vietnam.
According to him, with the UK Government increasing investment in renewable energy and building a new nuclear power plant in Suffolk while Vietnam is also developing nuclear power capacity and is in the process of large-scale green transformation, the two countries can share expertise and experience in these areas.
