Prime Minister directs reward of village chief for saving nearly 100 people from fierce floods

On August 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed the worthy reward of the village chief's actions in helping nearly 100 people evacuate before the flood.

In response to the brave and drastic actions of the Head of the A Thi season village (Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province), the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Home Affairs and the People's Committee of Dien Bien province to report on August 4 to the competent authority with appropriate and worthy policies and commendations.

At the same time, the Prime Minister requested all levels and sectors to learn from the brave example of Forgetting oneself for the community of the Head of the A Thi season; press and media agencies to spread good deeds for the life and peaceful and happy life of the people.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also requested the Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committees to review all schools, hospitals, and health stations in areas affected by the recent floods, and report to the Prime Minister on August 5 on repair and remedial plans, ensuring treatment for people and learning for children to prepare for the new school year.

On August 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Central working delegation inspected the work of overcoming the consequences of natural disasters in the communes of Tia Dinh, Na Son and Xa Dung. These are areas heavily affected by flash floods and landslides in Dien Bien province.

On the same afternoon, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the working delegation had a working session with the Standing Committee of the Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee on overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. The Prime Minister directed the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to balance the reserve fund, urgently support Dien Bien with 200 billion VND to urgently deploy the work of overcoming natural disasters in the immediate future; and at the same time provide 100 tons of rice to provide relief to flood areas.

Earlier, in the early morning of August 1, 72 households and more than 380 people in Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province were sleeping. Outside, heavy rain continues to fall. The head of Mua A Thi village called households in the dangerous area to grasp the situation, then decided to evacuate about 94 people from more than 20 households to safe locations.

Talking to Lao Dong, the 26-year-old village chief said: "I dare not claim to be a hero. As the village chief, I am aware of my responsibility to protect the people....

In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
