The Government Office has just issued Document No. 8744/VPCP-CN dated September 16, 2025, conveying the direction of Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on inspecting and handling the erosion on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway.
According to the reflection, after heavy rains, many locations along the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway in the north-south direction from Ham Thuan Bac commune to Ham Liem commune (on the more than 10km route) were damaged. Rainwater overflowed onto the roadbank, forming large ditches and erosion holes.
Regarding this issue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assigned the Minister of Construction to inspect and handle; report to the Prime Minister on the implementation results before September 25.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article reflecting "Erdosion and dangerous frog jaw openings on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway".
According to the article, after more than 2 years of operation, on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway, a location of roadbed erosion and a frog jaw opening appeared at km213+750 (right of the route) in Ham Liem commune, Lam Dong province.
It is worth mentioning that the erosion has eaten deep into the roadbed, causing open jaw blades, forming holes and seeing a layer of rock falling onto the roadbed.
This erosion poses a risk to the safety of vehicles running on the expressway. In particular, if it continues to rain heavily and overloaded vehicles pass by, there is a high risk of subsidence of the road surface.
The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet Expressway through the old Binh Thuan with a total investment of VND10,853 billion was opened to traffic more than two years ago.
This expressway, over 100km long, is a section of the North-South expressway in the East, connecting the South Central region with the Southeast region, helping to shorten travel time from Phan Thiet to Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City.
