Prime Minister has new directions on runway No. 2 of Phu Cat airport

The Prime Minister requested to strive to complete runway No. 2 of Phu Cat airport in June to put it into operation in the third quarter of 2026.

On March 6, the Government Office announced that it had issued Notice No. 99/TB-VPCP summarizing the conclusion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the inspection of the progress of the North-South Expressway project in the East and the project to invest in building runway No. 2 of Phu Cat airport in Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces.

To date, in Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces, 214km of the main route section from the beginning of Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon route to the south of Cu Mong tunnel has been completed, with only 53km to be completed in March 2026.

41km/61km of the Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh section due to storms and floods needs to complete the traffic safety system, top ditches, water steps and 12km/48km of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong project due to storms and floods needs to treat weak soil foundations.

To soon complete the remaining items of all projects, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Construction to direct the project investor and relevant agencies and units to mobilize all resources, urgently complete the acceptance procedures, and put into operation for the route sections that have completed construction before March 10, 2026.

For the remaining 53km, contractors are required to focus financial resources, increase human resources and equipment, and take advantage of favorable weather to organize "3 shifts, 4 teams" construction, ensuring quality and completion in March 2026.

People's Committees of provinces where expressway projects pass through review and supplement intersections and connection points with newly invested expressways (if necessary) to maximize project investment efficiency.

Provincial People's Committees direct functional agencies and local authorities to definitively handle the remaining site clearance problems of the project, especially at rest stop locations, to be completed before March 15, 2026.

The Ministry of Public Security directs the Traffic Police Department to coordinate and support the Ministry of Construction, the Investor, and contractors in the process of acceptance, handover, and putting projects into operation and exploitation, to be completed in March 2026.

Arrange forces to patrol, guide, and remind traffic participants to follow the traffic organization plan immediately when putting projects into operation.

Regarding the investment project to build runway No. 2 of Phu Cat airport, the Prime Minister praised Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee for its great efforts, responsibility, and proactive implementation of the runway No. 2 of Phu Cat Airport project to ensure progress and quality as committed.

To soon complete runway No. 2 and promote investment efficiency, the Prime Minister requested the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the investor, and the project contractor to continue to focus resources, take advantage of favorable weather to accelerate the project construction progress, complete the construction of runway No. 2 in June 2026, and ensure quality to put it into operation in the third quarter of 2026.

The project to invest in building runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat airport apron is invested by Gia Lai province, with a total investment of 3, 245 billion VND.

Currently, contractors have developed plans and schedules to mobilize human resources, equipment, materials and supplies to organize construction to complete the project according to schedule.

It is expected that the land work will be completed in March 2026, the crushed stone base layer will be completed in May 2026, and the cement concrete surface of the runway and taxiway will be completed in June 2026, and the standard flight will be carried out in July 2026.
