On the evening of May 24, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, along with the Vietnamese delegation, left Hanoi for an official visit to Malaysia and to attend the 46th ASEAN Summit and related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from May 24-28, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister - ASEAN Chair 2025 Anwar Ibrahim and his wife.
According to the Government newspaper, the delegation officially accompanied the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife on a business trip: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Vice Chairman of National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Deputy Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong; Deputy Minister of Public Security, Major General Dang Hong Duc; Deputy Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Sy Hiep; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of ASEAN ASEAN Do Hung Viet; Deputy Minister of Finance Tran Quoc Phuong; Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi. Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies in Malaysia, ASEAN and leaders of a number of ministries, branches and agencies join the delegation.
This is the first visit of a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Malaysia in 10 years and the first visit to Malaysia by a key Vietnamese leader after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024.
The 46th ASEAN Summit is the first Summit of the year of Malaysia's ASEAN presidency with the theme "imperial and Sustainable". In addition to the meetings of ASEAN leaders, ASEAN will have the second ASEAN - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the ASEAN - GCC Summit with China on this occasion.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Malaysia aims to continue implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, in which it focuses on and prioritizes the development of relations with neighboring countries and ASEAN, including Malaysia - a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and one of Vietnam's leading important economic partners.
The visit took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's admission to ASEAN, marking the beginning of the regional and international integration process, demonstrating Vietnam's strong support for Malaysia as ASEAN Chair 2025 and its determination to work with Malaysia and ASEAN countries to build a "Sustainable and Inclusive" ASEAN Community, united, strong, and consolidating ASEAN's central role in peace and stability in the region.
