Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will exchange and propose that the Russian side recognize the Vietnamese community in Russia as a Russian ethnic minority.

During the official visit to the Russian Federation, in the evening of February 22, local time at 3:00 PM, in Moscow, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a cordial meeting with officials and staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Russia.

Reporting to the Prime Minister, Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Dang Minh Khoi said that the Vietnamese community in Russia is a community with a long history of formation, associated with the history of relations between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union and Russia today, currently with about 80,000 people, including over 4,000 students and researchers.

There are ups and downs due to the local situation, but the Vietnamese community in Russia has a stable life, legal and social status is increasingly consolidated, always united and oriented towards their homeland and country.

Expressing pride in the country's outstanding development and Vietnam's increasingly enhanced role and position, Vietnamese people in Russia believe and are willing to contribute their best to cultivate Vietnam-Russia relations and contribute to bringing Vietnam to develop richly, civilized, prosperous, and happy in the new era.

The Prime Minister said that Vietnam-Russia relations are a relationship with a long-standing traditional foundation, nurtured throughout a long journey of 3/4 centuries.

Overcoming geographical distances, the two nations, the two countries are not only "harmonious" in soul, ideals, and vision, but also "accompany each other" to overcome many hardships and challenges to continuously develop.

With specific stories throughout the cooperative relationship between the two countries, especially between the people of the two countries, especially in difficult times, the Prime Minister affirmed that there are times of ups and downs and breakthroughs, but no matter what the circumstances, the loyalty between Russians and Vietnamese people does not change; it is necessary to continue to preserve, nurture and promote.

Affirming that the special feelings between the people of Vietnam and the people of the former Soviet Union, as well as Russia today, are a bright symbol of solidarity and special international friendship, the Prime Minister said that in this visit, when meeting and talking with senior leaders of Russia, the Prime Minister will exchange and propose that the Russian side recognize the Vietnamese community in Russia as a Russian ethnic minority; continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Russia to increasingly have a solid legal status, stable life, feel secure in doing business, working, studying and integrating, making more positive contributions to the economic, cultural and social life of Russia, and at the same time promoting the role of a bridge, contributing to further deepening the relations between the two countries.

Emphasizing that the overseas Vietnamese community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, the Prime Minister said that in the past time, the Party and State have always focused and paid attention to protecting the legitimate and lawful rights of the overseas Vietnamese community, supporting people to stabilize their lives, deeply integrate into local society, and promote the traditional identity of the Vietnamese nation.

The Party and State always listen to and absorb the contributions of overseas Vietnamese in building policies for overseas Vietnamese, most recently the adjustments in the Law on Citizenship, to increasingly meet the aspirations of the people.
