On the afternoon of March 13, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromaya - Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Vietnam - to exchange views on measures to promote the Vietnam - Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as well as cooperation to ensure energy security between the two countries.
At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that 2026 is of special significance, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand (1976 - 2026), and the two sides are actively coordinating to build and implement the Action Program to implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the period 2026-2030.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed the invitation of General Secretary To Lam to invite the King and Queen of Thailand to visit Vietnam at a suitable time.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Thailand is Vietnam's leading trading partner in ASEAN, and proposed that the two sides continue to make efforts to bring bilateral trade turnover to the milestone of 25 billion USD soon in a more balanced and sustainable direction by creating favorable conditions and further opening up the commodity market, limiting the application of trade barriers to each other's goods.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the potential for cooperation between the two countries is very large and there are many strengths that can complement each other; the two sides need to jointly study expanding cooperation in new fields such as science, technology, digital transformation, digital economy, innovation and connecting innovative startup networks; promote cooperation on green and sustainable economy, circular economy, clean energy, equitable energy transition, cultural, sports, tourism, education and training exchanges, and people-to-people exchanges to strengthen the bond and friendship between the two countries, and organize meaningful activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026.
Faced with the current complex developments in the Middle East region, the Prime Minister emphasized Vietnam's consistent stance of resolving disputes by peaceful means; highly appreciated ASEAN's organization of the Special Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Middle East situation on March 13, 2026, and requested ASEAN countries to continue to promote the spirit of solidarity to create strength, cooperation for mutual benefit, and dialogue to strengthen trust.
Regarding energy security issues, the Prime Minister shared his concern about ensuring the supply of aviation fuel, which is of great significance for civil aviation, transportation, tourism and trade activities in the region.
In that spirit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Thailand to consider creating favorable conditions to ensure stable fuel supply for civil aviation activities in Vietnam, contributing to socio-economic stability and development, trade and tourism cooperation.
The Thai Ambassador expressed high agreement with the proposals of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; affirming that the two countries need to support each other in the current period when the world is facing many challenges.
The Ambassador emphasized that although Thailand is also facing many difficulties in ensuring sufficient domestic energy supply, Thailand will continue to contribute to the common efforts, especially of ASEAN, to ensure energy stability in the region.
