Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien receives IISS Executive Director for Asia

    Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hopes that in the coming time, the Ministry of National Defense will welcome IISS leaders and research experts to visit Vietnam.

    On May 6, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense - had a working session with Ms. Veerle Nouwens - Executive Director of the International Strategic Research Institute (IISS) for Asia.

    At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien thanked IISS for sending an invitation to General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam - to attend and speak at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue this year.

    Senior General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized that the Shangri-La Dialogue is an important forum for policymakers to present their views on emerging international and regional issues and to make their country's defense and security policies transparent.

    Over the past 20 years, since the first Shangri-La Dialogue was held in 2002, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense has sent delegations to attend and regularly delivered important speeches at plenary sessions.

    Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien hopes that in the coming time, the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will welcome IISS leaders and research experts to visit Vietnam to exchange views, share experiences, seek the ability to cooperate, and conduct academic research between IISS and Vietnam's defense research agencies.

    Thereby affirming that the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense will create conditions for affiliated research agencies to continue promoting cooperation with IISS, actively sending delegations to participate in activities organized by IISS in Asia at IISS's invitation.

    At the meeting, Ms. Veerle Nouwens - Executive Director of IISS Asia informed Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien about preparations for the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue this year; and emphasized that the topics discussed in this year's dialogue reflect the current situation of the region and the world.

    Senior General Hoang Xuan Chien expressed his confidence that with the careful preparation of IISS in general and IISS in Asia in particular, the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue will be a great success, contributing significantly to maintaining peace, stability and regional security.
