Elderly health care is not just a medical issue
To celebrate the 14th National Party Congress, on January 17, a joint venture of investors including Hanoi Medical University Hospital (under the authorization of Hanoi Medical University) - Hanoi Housing Investment and Development Corporation (HANDICO) - NGS Equipment and Communication Joint Stock Company organized the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Hanoi Medical University Medical University Medical - Elderly Health Care Complex Project at Hanoi Medical University Hoang Mai facility (Hoang Mai ward, Hanoi city).
General Secretary To Lam attended and delivered directing speeches at the ceremony. Also attending were Politburo members: Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Duy Ngoc.
Speaking at the Ceremony, General Secretary To Lam emphasized that this is an important event, not only for Hanoi Capital, but also for the strategy of protecting, caring for and improving people's health, especially the elderly, in the context that our country is entering a period of rapid population aging.
The General Secretary clearly stated that our Party always maintains the viewpoint: People are both a goal and a driving force for development. In which, people's health care is a central and consistent political task.
For the elderly, health care is not only a medical issue, but also a profound humanitarian issue, showing the responsibility of the Party, State, society and each family towards those who have dedicated their whole lives to the country, to the community and to their own families.
In the context of increasing average life expectancy, the family and social model is undergoing many changes, if there is no new approach, the health and social security systems will face great pressure.
Therefore, our Party and State have issued many important guidelines and resolutions to proactively adapt to population aging, strengthen protection, care and improve people's health, considering this as a pillar of sustainable development.
Putting the quality of healthcare and the benefits of the elderly at the center
The General Secretary said that this project is suitable and directly concretizes many major policies of the Party and State on science and technology development, private economic development, strengthening protection, care and improving people's health; and at the same time shows the determination of the Capital in applying specific mechanisms and policies to implement large, important projects with long-term spillover effects.
The General Secretary acknowledged and highly appreciated the close coordination between the State - schools - scientists - businesses in this project, which is very commendable and in line with the Party's policy on promoting all social resources for development, in which the private economy is the most important driving force of the economy.
For the project to be successfully implemented, the General Secretary requested Hanoi City to continue to pay attention to leadership and close direction; closely coordinate with the Ministry of Health and relevant agencies; create favorable conditions in accordance with the law; and at the same time strengthen supervision to ensure that the project is implemented on schedule, according to planning, according to objectives, ensuring quality and efficiency.
Hanoi Medical University and medical facilities participating in the project need to maximize their professional role, maintain medical ethics, take the quality of health care and the benefits of the elderly as the center; and at the same time build this into a reputable training and research center for geriatrics, gradually approaching regional and international standards...
Businesses and investors need to fulfill their commitments; value social responsibility; invest methodically and long-term; harmonize economic efficiency with social and humane goals, not chasing short-term benefits.
The General Secretary believes that with the determination and consensus of all levels, sectors, scientists and businesses, the Health - Elderly Health Care Complex Project - Hanoi Medical University will be successfully implemented, becoming a symbol of academic medicine, humane medicine and modern medicine in the new era.
The Health - Elderly Health Care Complex Project of Hanoi Medical University is oriented as a multi-functional complex, integrating high-quality medical examination and treatment, training and practice of medicine, scientific research, technology transfer and comprehensive health care for the elderly, forming a synchronous health - education - research operating ecosystem.
The project has a total estimated investment of 16,093 billion VND. Phase 1 is expected to be completed in 2028, aiming to complete the entire project by 2030.
