Attending the conference were Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu - Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Vu Thanh Mai - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department and nearly 300 delegates representing the standing committees of Provincial Party Committees, City Party Committees, Propaganda Departments, departments, branches, and armed forces of 28 coastal provinces and cities.
Here, delegates listened to and discussed the work of protecting Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty on the political and diplomatic fronts in recent times; the recent situation in the East Sea; forecasts of the situation and directions and tasks of protecting sea and island sovereignty in the coming time.
The representative of the standing agency against IUU of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also informed about the situation and results of combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in recent times.
According to Mr. Vu Thanh Mai - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, in recent times, propaganda work on seas and islands has achieved great results, contributing significantly to raising people's awareness and love for the seas and islands, and motivating forces that are implementing management and protection of the sovereignty of the seas and islands of the Fatherland.
Propaganda and raising people's awareness of the role and position of the sea and islands is extremely necessary. Propaganda work on the sea and islands is a long-term, regular and continuous task of the entire political system.
Mr. Vu Thanh Mai emphasized that the world and regional situation continues to develop complicatedly, the trend of peace and development cooperation is facing many challenges. In order to coordinate propaganda work on seas and islands to achieve higher quality and efficiency, promoting the proactiveness, creativity and flexibility of the forces doing propaganda work on seas and islands at all levels, sectors and localities, it is necessary to continue to thoroughly grasp the contents related to seas and islands.
Notable are the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW, dated October 22, 2018 of the 12th Party Central Committee on "Strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy to 2030, vision to 2045".
Resolution No. 44-NQ/TW, dated November 24, 2023 of the 13th Party Central Committee on "Strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation" and the Resolution of the National Assembly on "National marine spatial planning for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2050", along with relevant directives and regulations of the Party and State... thereby raising awareness and creating consensus among all classes of people on the task of protecting sovereignty over seas and islands.
